Chapter 4: Fighting

“That’s one heck of a story,” Ben commented holding his dark green blanket around him. Gwen nodded in agreement clutching her black wool blanket tighter. Julie sighed.

“Yeah, I know. I’m so sorry for Kevin’s behavior,” Julie blinked. “Oh great. Now I’m sounding like his mom…”

“Where is his mom anyways?” Gwen asked. “Wouldn’t she be doing all the things your doing now?” Julie looked sadly at the floor. She shivered slightly from both the cold and the sadness of the memory of Kevin’s lovely mother.

“Yes, yes she would… But she can’t…” Julie mused sadly.

“Then why doesn’t she?” Ben asked grabbing a hold of Julie’s hand. Julie’s eyes snapped up and looked into Ben’s. They stared into each others eyes for a while until Ben let her hand go, both flushing profusely. “You don’t have to tell us. We can get if she’s busy or-or something.”

“No, it’s okay. I would tell you, but it’s not my place, she was Kevin’s mom. It’s not my story to tell,” Julie explained fixing her skirt while blushing profusely. Gwen raised an eyebrow at them. They were in a dark desolate bare room. It was raining cats and dogs outside. It was freezing inside this little room. And both Ben and Julie were already starting to like each other. I guess my books were right, Gwen mused mentally, love can start happening any where and any place.

Julie stood up and walked toward the wooden door, opening it wide. She gestured for them to go ahead of her. “Come on, let me show you to your rooms.”

“To our rooms?” Gwen questioned. “I thought we were staying here.” Julie smiled softly at both Tennysons, Ben blushed slightly at the sight of the dazzling smile. (As he would put it.)

“I don’t think you would like to stay here. It’s pretty cold, and the floor doesnt look to comfortable,” Julie commented crossing her arms over her chest and leaning against the doorway.

“Which way to our rooms?” Ben asked.

“You know, master, maybe you should be nicer to our new guest.” Alexa suggested watching her master pace in front of a fire place. They were in the Kevin’s study. The black fire place was flickering with life. Unusual in the castle; It was always dreary, usually with no flames in it. Without even realizing it, that red head had already affected their master, even in the most minimalist way.

“They’re not guest, they’re prisoners,” Kevin growled at the purple and black girl. Alexa just sighed. He could at least he could try to be nice.

“But that girl could be the one to break the curse!” Kaylin piped in.

“And you don’t think I’ve thought of that?!” Kevin yelled. Kaylin and Alexa moved their arms in front of them as if to shield themselves from his rage.

“Jeez it was just a suggestion, master,” Kaylin muttered. Kevin ignored her and continued pacing. Just then, he stopped short in his pacing. An angry red floating being started glowering at Kevin. Her hands on her hips and in full mother mode.

“You shouldn’t snap at them, young master,” Becky scowled.

“You are not my mother!” Kevin yelled. Becky glare became harder, if looks could kill, Kevin would have already been a bulky corpse on the floor. Kevin shut up immediately. Even he knew it was foolish to yell at Becky, especially when she was this mad. Becky growled and moved closer to Kevin so they were face to face.

“Well, I wouldn’t if you started acting your age!” Becky boomed, “Now, you are going to see them and at least try to act nice! You got that you little punk?!”

“Gee, calm down,” Kevin muttered. “Your gonna blow a gasket one of these days, I swear-“

“I already blew a gasket about two years ago, now march!” Becky snapped pointing her index finger to the door. Kevin crossed both set of arms and looked at Becky defiantly.

“Hey, you’re not the-” Kevin started, but was only interrupted by Becky.

March!” Becky yelled. Kevin glared at her one last time then stomped out of the room slamming the door on his way out. Alexa glanced up at Becky.

“Was that really necessary?” The young purple and black girl asked. The energy being nodded crossing her arms together.

“Kevin wouldn’t do much unless forced to, he’s that lazy,” Becky sighed rubbing her forehead with her index finger and her thumb, feeling a massive headache coming on. She knew full well, that if these guest brought this much trouble on the first day, she was going to have many headaches to come.

“She’s got a point, you know.” Kaylin pointed out. Alexa sighed, “Yeah I know, I just hope nothing bad will come out of this…”

“Whoa, this place is huge!” Gwen softly exclaimed. They were walking down another hallway, well, if you could call it that. The hallways were huge it seemed endless.

Tapestry hung on the sides of the hall some showing prophecies and others with some black and green crest on it. The only thing lighting their way were torches. Their were colored glass windows to the side. When lightning lit up the sky, specks of colors fell upon the floor for the few second the lightning lit up the sky.

“Yeah, it is,” Julie agreed. “But when you live here, it’s not as big as it seems.” Julie smiled at them. “I hope you like it here,” She added as a second thought.

“I’m sure we will,” Ben assured sweetly. Gwen mentally rolled her eyes. She started to wonder when their wedding was going to take place. She could already hear the brides march playing as they walked down the huge corridor.

“So, how’s Bellwood now a days? We don’t go out there to often you know,” Julie joked slightly.

“It’s okay, I guess. Well, it depends on how you look at the place,” Gwen started. “It’s not really all to bad. I guess…”

“Ah, I see,” Julie giggled slightly. “Still boring, isn’t it?”

“You wouldn’t believe it…” Ben muttered. Gwen punched Ben in the arm, “Ow! You can’t say that it isn’t boring.” Julie laughed at their bickering.

“Bellwood is still boring it seems, do they still shout bonjour at the same time?” Julie asked, “I still don’t get why they say that. French isn’t a native language here…”

“Yes! They do! And it kinda creeps me out that they all say that at the same time,” Gwen agreed.

“Ah man! They still do that?” Julie asked, “It’s been about three years since I’ve been there, how could they not stop doing that?”

“Wait, you’ve been to Bellwood?” Ben asked. Julie nodded.

“Well, why wouldn’t I be? It’s the closest town. I used to go there to get the groceries sometimes. Even Kevin came sometimes if he was too bored, Julie admitted, “Not like there was much to do there, it was always a quite town, dose Mr. Potts still run the bookstore?”

“Yes! He dose!” Gwen answered, “He’s such a nice old man.”

“I know, right? I miss that old man,” Julie commented. Just then a roar was heard.

“JULIET HINATA YAMAMOTO!!!” A voice bellowed, both Tennysons already knew who it was. Julie winced. By how loud he yelled and how he used her full name, Kevin was definitely going to kill her for letting both Tennysons out without his permission…

“‘Juliet Hinata Yamamoto’?” Ben asked. Julie flushed slightly embarrassed at the use of her full name.

“My full name. Kevin only calls me that unless he’s really angry at me,” Julie said. “And he said my full name, so this isn’t good.”

“You think?” A sarcastic voice quipped behind them. Both Tennysons’ looked behind them to see Kevin standing their with all four arms crossed. Julie shuffled a little under the glare Kevin was sending her way.

“Yes, Kevin? What do you need?” Julie asked innocently, looking at him with large eyes. Kevin glared back down.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Kevin asked. Julie blinked, not really sure if he was speaking about how she was pretending to act all innocent or the fact she was giving their new ‘prisoners’ better rooms without telling him.

“What are you talking about?” The Asian asked. Kevin’s glare turned sharper. He then pointed a furry clawed finger at where Gwen and Ben were currently standing.

“Why are they out of their cells?” Kevin growled. Julie just rolled her eyes.

“They are not prisoners here, they’re guests! I was just showing them to their rooms!” Julie explained waving her hands slightly to help her point.

“They are prisoners!” Kevin yelled stomping his feet like a spoiled child.

“Oh, and how so?” Julie inquired tapping her foot.

“They were trespassing,” Kevin grunted giving her a cold glare. Which she returned with a pointed look.

“So? It’s still not fair that they would have to sleep on a cold hard floor because they were looking for that nice old man,” Julie huffed stubbornly. “I’m not letting them stay in the dungeon!”

“Don’t even bring up that old nut job! He’s the one who started this!” Kevin barked.

“Hey! My grandpa is not some old nut job!” Ben yelled. Kevin glared down at the brunet who was glaring right back at him. Who did that monster think he was? How dare he go mock his grandfather!

“Oh yeah? Says who?” Kevin growled barring his teeth out in hopes that Ben would back down like everyone in the castle did. Well, there were only two exceptions to that: Becky and Julie. Unfortunately, for Kevin at least, Ben didn’t.

“Says me!” Ben yelled back defiantly. Kevin internal groaned, great, he had to deal with him for another couple of years.

“Oh my goodness!” Kevin mocked in a falsetto voice, “The little boy defied me! I’m so scared!”

“My name’s Ben,” Ben yelled through clenched teeth.

“Like I care what your name is, kid,” Kevin snorted. Before Ben could open his mouth Julie interrupted their quarrel.

“Jeez! How old you two anyway?” Julie snapped.

“But he called me kid!” Ben complained. Gwen rolled her eyes.

“Oh my god, that is so terrible, Ben,” Gwen remarked sarcastically. Ben glared at his cousin. Julie just shook her head.

“Okay, there is no way, I’m leaving you two alone for longer than three seconds… Or less. So, looks like Gwen has to go with Kevin.” Julie looked at Gwen, “You don’t mind do you? Kevin probably wants to feel helpful so, it’d be nice if you helped. You don’t have to though.” Gwen shook her head.

“It’s fine,” Gwen assured. She didnt really want to go with this-this thing (as she thought of him by his actions, still not really sure what word could best describe him,) but if she didnt, Ben would be dead and Julie and Kevin would be in another fight. Gwen could see it now

Kevin wheres Ben? Julie would ask.

I killed him, Kevin would answer back not even at all remorseful.

WHAT?! Julie and Gwen would shout as they would give him an incredulous look.

“WHAT?!?!” Ben yelled. Kevin just couldn’t believe she agreed to come so easily. Maybe them staying here wouldn’t be so bad. Gwen glared at her cousin for his out burst.

“Calm down! It’s going to be all right, okay?” Julie assured putting a hand on Ben’s shoulder causing him to blush, he than glared at Gwen and Kevin when he heard them snickering. Julie than just turned to Kevin, “Don’t do anything rash or stupid, okay? Just show her to her room. I’ll take Ben with me.”

Both Kevin and Gwen walked down the hallway. Gwen wouldn’t admit it, but she was scared. Before she was with her cousin and Julie. Now she was with this-this beast that’s keeping her and Ben in this castle. She felt ashamed for calling this boy a beast, she didn’t even know him all to well; all she knew was that he had a short fiery temper. As they walked, the scenery around them became scarier.

There were gargoyles baring their vicious teeth out. By the looks, a lot of details were put into the gargoyles making them look realistic. Thunder boomed while lightning momentarily lit up making the gargoyles seem even more scary. Gwen winced. The castle was now officially creeping her out. She missed her home, her grandpa, and (weirdly enough) her cousin.

Kevin who was walking ahead of he was not bothered by the storm at all. Their has been storms like this, coming and going for about two weeks now. He was nervous. What was he supposed to say to her? He wasn’t used to talking to girls or woman for that matter. Well, Julie and the other servant girls didn’t count. He didn’t really have romantic feelings for them. But this woman was different. Kevin glanced back at Gwen to see her looking down the ground with a tear falling down her cheek. Kevin now felt horrible for making this beautiful woman cry. Wait, beautiful?

“Talk to her,” A voice whispered. Kevin looked around to see Alexa and Kaylin to his left hidding in the shadows. Kaylin was on Alexa’s back. Man, they’re good, how did they get there in the first place? That thought left Kevin’s mind and he glared at them.

“What am I supposed to say?!” He hissed glancing behind him just to make sure she didn’t hear them or himself. She was oblivious to the exchange that was going on, she seemed to busy scanning her new surroundings.

“Anything!” Alexa whispered back. Kevin gave a low aggravated sigh. This was just not his day. First, he’s reminded with the fact that today happens to be the worst day since it was his birthday AND the day the castle was cursed. Then when he goose to sit in his favorite chair. Some old man seemed to be sitting there with his most trusted servants just standing there not doing anything to get him to leave, but instead just talking to him like they were old friends catching up. Now, he’s showing someone who was supposed to be his prisoner to a room because his “sister” told him he couldnt do it. This just wasn’t his day.

“I hope you like it here…” Kevin started glancing at her. Gwen looked up. He then glanced at his left to see Kaylin moving his hands in a shoo motion for his to continue.

“This castle is now your home. You’re allowed to go any where except the North Wing.”

“What’s in the North Wing?” Kevin silently cursed at himself. He should’ve just shut up. He glared at Alexa and Kaylin but they just shot him a look. Hey, it wasn’t their fault he said something idiotic. Kevin sent Gwen a sharp look.

“Nothing you need to know about.” Kevin said menacingly.

“But, I’m just asking what’s in the North-” Gwen was interrupted by Kevin who was suddenly in her face.

“I SAID IT’S NOT OF YOUR CONCERN!!” Kevin snapped. Gwen was slightly shocked at the rather loud outburst and backed away so she wasnt only an inch away from his face. Alexa slapped her forehead while Kaylin just silently groaned. Ugh! This is getting NO WHERE! Couldn’t he at least try to act nice? She thought. Noticing that it was a lost cause, they both slunk back toward where the group were waiting for them, so they could meet that brown haired boy that their nice mistress seemed to have taken an interest in.

“All I did was ask what was in the North Wing,” Gwen muttered. Kevin just glowered down at her.

“And as I said, it’s none of your concern.” Kevin muttered back rather childishly.

“I SAID IT’S NOT OF YOUR CONCERN!!” A loud voice hollered, slightly echoed by the loud castle.

Julie and Ben winced, knowing full well that Kevin was the one who screamed it. Julie groaned and slapped her forehead. Couldn’t he just try to act nice? She almost laughed a loud. Kevin and nice can only be in the same sentence if is not was in between them.

“So, it seems Kevin and Gwen are getting along,” Ben commented sarcastically.

Julie nodded, “Seems like.”

At the moment, Julie and Ben were sitting down on Julie’s bed. They didn’t feel like roaming around a dark creepy castle during a thunder storm. So, they decided to talk a little in Julie’s room.

Unlike the decor that was in the hallway, everything seemed uplifting in this room. The stones in the wall were a pearl color and the curtains, which were at the moment closed, were a red velvet color. Her bed was a nice large queen size with a silky thick red blanket and a white sheet. The head board of the bed was a dark mahogany. The canopy was, like the curtains, a red velvet color.

At the end of the of the door was a fire place that was flickering with life. And in front of that fire place was a comfy black couch made from some kind of leather material. Julie

sighed and lied on her back in her nice comfy bed, Ben looked down at her.

“Is he all ways this moody? Or is it just today?” Ben asked. Julie shrugged.

“It varies from day to day. He’s like a ticking time bomb,” Julie said.

“Is that why we haven’t seen any of the other servants around here?” Ben inquired. Julie nodded.

“Kinda, they learn to hide when they know that Kevin’s angry. Especially today.” Julie replied. Ben nodded understandingly.

“So, has this been going on every year?” Ben asked. Julie nodded.

“Yeah, basically, but I think it might be worse since-“

Just than a slight rapping sound was heard and both adults (A/N: I bet that you people forgot they weren’t teens in this. XD) turned to see the door was open. Just than a purple and black striped girl stuck her head in.

“Can we come in? Or are we interrupting something?” She asked hesitantly. Julie shock her head.

“We were just talking, you guys can come in.” Alexa nodded and turned back.

“Don’t worry guys! I told you they weren’t making-out or anything!” She said. Both Ben and Julie blushed at that. Turning around, the lizard-like girl opened the door all the way and they all entered. Stepping foreword with the whole gang behind her she gave Ben a little wave before gliding before him and offering him a hand. Ben smiled politely and shook the hand. The young girl smiled and withdrew her hand.

“Hi! Nice to meet ya’!” Alexa said. “My name’s Alexa, welcome to the castle! These are my friends, a few of the other servants.” Alexa introduced herself before gliding back with her friends. The glowing red woman, who was floating, flew down in front of Ben. With a smile tugging at her lips she offered her hand as well.

“It’s nice to meet you! I’m Becky, the main coordinator in this palace! Nothing happens that I don’t normally know about! So, what’s your name kid?” The red glowing woman asked. Ben looked at Julie to receive the ‘okay- this woman’s nice’ nod before answering. Once seeing the slight nod he looked back and shook the woman’s hand.

“My name’s Benjamin Tennyson, but you can call me Ben,” He answered. Becky nodded flashing a small smile. Than, the red bulky creature stepped foreword and threw an arm around Becky, offering his lower right arm towards Ben.

“Nice to meet ‘ya Ben, I’m Hayden, Becky’s husband,” He introduced himself Ben smiled back sheepishly and shook Hayden’s hand hesitantly. Noticing this Hayden barked out a laugh.

“No need to worry, Ben. I’m not going to squish you or anything,” his warm laughter was replaced with a scowl and he started glaring at Ben slightly. “But if you do anything to hurt my wife or my kids, that’s another story entirely. Got that squirt?” Ben quickly nodded. Becky glared at Hayden slightly and slapped him on the chest.

“Don’t scare the poor boy,” Becky reprimanded him. Hayden smiled innocently at Becky,

“Me? Trying to scare him? I did no such thing!” Becky rolled her eyes.

“This is your room,” Kevin grunted opening the large door to reveal a serene blue themed room. Gwen didn’t reply. “Dinner’s at seven, you’ll be there,” Kevin continued. Gwen glared at the bulky creature beside her.

“Who says I’m going?” Gwen snapped. Kevin glared down at the red head, his hand unconsciously squeezing harder on the door knob causing dents to be made.

“I did,” Kevin grunted. Hearing a slight crushing sound, thanks to his sensitive hearing, he looked down and immediately let go of the mangled door knob. Gwen glared up at him.

“Just because you said I was, doesn’t mean that I will be there,” Gwen yelled, than she stomped inside her room slamming the door behind her before Kevin could even utter a word. Kevin’s hands clutched as he let out a frustrated cry. Turning around, he stomped toward his room. Whoever let that old man in, he hoped that they would die a slow painful death.

“Ah-ah-CHOO!” Alexa sneezed receiving a few bless yous in response. The lizard-girl slunk back in her seat on the comfy leather couch, while the others stood at different places around the room.

“Thanks,” Alexa replied. Julie glanced at Alexa from her position on the bed, Ben next to her.

“Do you think you might be sick?” The Asian asked. Alexa shrugged, twisted herself so that her knees down were seated on her couch. Propping her elbows on the couch- now facing

“I don’t think so,” Alexa answered honestly. “Maybe someone’s talking about me,” She mused.
